Press Release: 06 September 2004
LAST CHANCE TO NOMINATE UNSUNG HEROES
Time is running out to nominate voluntary groups
to win the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service
2005.
The nomination period for the Award, given annually
and designed to reward those groups of volunteers who devote their
time to improving the quality of life for others, ends 30th September
2004.
Now in its third year, the Award was created
to mark the occasion of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee. Over 300
groups have won the Award to date, receiving a certificate signed
by the Queen and a commemorative piece of crystal. This year’s
winners also had the opportunity to send three members to a reception
at St James’s Palace hosted by The Queen.
Fiona Mactaggart, Minister for the Voluntary
and Community Sector, said:
“This Award is about recognition, pride
and motivation for the people who devote so much of their time to
volunteering – the unsung heroes in our communities. As the
nomination period for the 2005 Awards is drawing to a close, I hope
that everybody will take a moment to think about the voluntary groups
that enrich their lives, and the role they play in the community.
It is time to give these voluntary groups the recognition they deserve,
by nominating for the 2005 Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.”
Groups cannot self nominate for this Award. Community
and voluntary groups can be nominated by representatives of public
bodies, or members of the public who have benefited from their work,
or seen the positive impact these groups make in the community.
If you would like to nominate a volunteering
group, nomination forms for the Queen’s Award for Voluntary
Service 2005 can be obtained from
