Cabinet Office - Office for the Third Sector
welcome The Queen's Announcements

In 2002, in celebration of Her Majesty’s Golden Jubilee, the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Award for Voluntary Service by Groups in the Community was established. Its purpose is to recognise groups of individuals who are giving their time freely for the benefit of others. It is the highest honour that can be bestowed upon groups of this kind and is equivalent in status to the MBE. As such, the Queen’s Award not only serves to provide recognition of volunteer groups, but also demonstrates the high respect in which volunteering is held.

Latest News
17/06/08 – On Tuesday 17th June, The Office of the Third Sector in the Cabinet Office will begin its regional events programme across Britain to highlight the benefits of receiving the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, and to increase nominations.

The first event will take place in London and will be attended by Sir David Brewer Kt CMG, Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London and Mrs Phyllida Stewart-Roberts OBE, Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex. The event offers eligible groups and all those able to encourage, make and support their nomination, the chance to learn more about this prestigious Award.

Previous winners will speak at this and all of the forthcoming regional events to share their own experiences and what it meant for their particular group to win the Award. The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service events will take place in London, the Isle of Man, Norwich, the Channel Islands and Exeter in June. The remaining regions will have events in Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds, Cardiff, Nottingham, Belfast and Edinburgh in July.
